Cody Ceci was born on December 21, 1993 in Ottawa, Ontario. The 63 defenseman was playing in the OHL for the Ottawa 67s when he was drafted in the first round, 15th overall, by the Ottawa Senators in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Ceci woul play the majority of his four seasons with the 67s before he would be traded to the Owen Sound Attack to end his major junior career.

Upon the completion of his OHL career, the Ottawa Senators would assign Ceci to their AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. He would only play part of his year in Binghamton as the Senators gave him a chance at the NHL level on December 12, 2013, where he would make his NHL debut in a 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. A few days later on December 16, 2013, Ceci would score his first NHL goal as a 3-2 overtime winner over the St. Louis Blues.

Ceci would appear in 75 games for the Senators during the 2015-16 season. His 10 goals and 26 points were both career-highs and his 16 assists matched his previous best. At season's end he helped Team Canada to the gold medal at the World Championship.
