Adam Pelech was born on August 16, 1994 in Toronto, Ontario. A solid defenceman foe the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League, he was selected by the New York Islanders in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Pelech made his professional debut for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League during the 2014-15 season. In 65 games for the club he recorded 11 assists.

On November 13, 2015, Pelech made his NHL debut, suiting up for the Islanders in a 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. He would go on to appear in nine games for the Islanders during the 2015-16 season, notching a pair of assists. Pelech would appear in 44 games for the Islanders during the 2016-17 season, scoring three times and adding seven assists.
