Colton Parayko was born on May 12, 1993, in St. Albert, Alberta. A towering defenceman, he attented the University of Alaska Fairbanks and was selected in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues.

Upon completion of his junior collegiate, Parayko signed an entry-level contract with the Blues and joined their AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, to finish the 201415 season. In 17 games for the club he scored four goals and added three assists.

Parayko surprised many, cracking the Blues roster to start the 2015-16 season. He would go on to appear in 79 games for the club during his first full professional campaign, scoring nine times and notching 24 assists. He would also suit up in 20 post-season games for the Blues, helping the club reach the Western Conference Final.
