Connor Carrick was born on April 13, 1994 in Orland Park, Illinois. The product of the United States National Development team of the USHL was drafted in the fifth round, 137th overall, by the Washington Capitals in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

After his time with in the USHL, Carrick decided to continue to hone his skills in the OHL and play for the Plymouth Whalers. In Plymouth, he would help the Whalers go all the way to the semi-finals, before losing to the London Knights in five games.

At the conclusion of his junior career, the Capitals gave Carrick and immediate chance at playing in the NHL when he made the opening day roster for the 2013-14 season. He would make his debut on October 1, 2013 in a 6-4 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks and two days later he would score his first NHL goal in a 5-4 shootout victory over the Calgary Flames. Carrick would spend his season splitting time between the NHL and the AHLís Hershey Bears, playing 34 games in the NHL,

During the 2014-15 season, Carrick would spend his entire season in the AHL playing for the Bears where he scored 8 goals and 42 points in 73 games. He would spend the majority of the following season with the Bears as well before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs alongside Brooks Laich and a second round pick in exchange for Daniel Winnik.

On the international stage, Carrick has had great success represented the United States. He was a part of two Gold Medal teams at the 2012 IIHF World Under 18 Championships and the 2013 World Junior Championship. He also won a Silver medal in the 2011 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.
