Paul LaDue was born on September 6, 1992 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. A product of the USHL, he was selected in the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings and would go on to attend the University of North Dakota.

Upon completing his third collegiate season, LaDue would join the Kings’ AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign, for three playoff games as the 2015-16 season came to an end. He would begin the following season with the Reign, appearing in 38 games for the club and recording 18 points. LaDue would also get his first taste of NHL action during the 2016-17 season. In 22 games the defenceman would record eight points.
