Evan McEneny was born on May 22, 1994 in Hamilton, Ontario. A defeceman for the Kitchener Rangers and Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League, he was undrafted by an NHL club and instead signed as a free agent with the Vancouver Canucks on September 13, 2012.

McEneny’s first professional season would be spent primarily with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL. In 36 games for the club he scored a goal and added 24 assists. In 2016-17, McEneny would appear in 64 games at the AHL level with the Utica Comets. He would also get his first taste of NHL action, making his debut for the Canucks on February 25, 2017 in a 4-1 loss at the hands of the San Jose Sharks.
