Jared Coreau was born on November 5, 1991, in Perth, Ontario. He played college hockey for Northern Michigan University and though undrafted by an NHL club, signed as a free agent with the Detroit Red Wings.

Coreau would split time during his first two professional seasons between the Red Wings ECHL and AHL affiliates in Toledo and Grand Rapids. In 2015-16, as a member of the Grand Rapids Griffins, the goaltender posted an impressive 29 wins along with a 2.43 goals-against-average and a .923

On December 3, 2016, Coreau made his NHL debut, suiting up for the Red Wings in 5-3 loss at the hands of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He would go on to appear in 14 games for Detroit over the course of the season.
