Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Antti Raanta
Antti Raanta was born on May 12, 1989 in Rauma, Finland. The undrafted goaltender would play professionally in Finland for four years before he would make the jump to play in North America.

After a championship season in the Finnish Elite League, that would see him win the Lasse Oksanen Trophy as the best player of the regular season and the Jari Kurri Trophy for the best player in the playoffs, the Chicago Blackhawks would sign Raanta to an NHL entry level contract. Upon arriving in the Blackhawks organization he would be assigned to their AHL affiliate the Rockford Ice Hogs.

After an injury to backup goaltender, Nikolai Khabibulin, Raanta was promoted to the NHL where he would make his NHL debut on November 19, 2013, in relief of starter Corey Crawford, which would see the Blackhawks lose 5-1 to the Colorado Avalanche.

As a result of a strong December, Raanta shared the Rookie of the Month Honours with fellow goaltender Martin Jones after he posted an 8-1-3 record in the month, highlighted by his first career shutout on December 30, 2013 in a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

Despite his success in the 2013-14 season, Raanta would lose his job as backup to Corey Crawford after being out played by third string goalie, Scott Darling. The two goalies would compete for the backup position throughout the 2014-15 season, however it would be Darling who would take the mantle by yearís end.

After the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in 2015, Raanta would leave Chicago as a free agent to play for the New York Rangers where he would backup Henrik Lundqvist for the 2015-16 season. Raanta would spend two seasons in New York, appearing in 25 and 30 games respectively and recording goals-against-averages of 2.24 and 2.26. Following the 2016-17 season, Raanta was traded along with Derek Stepan to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a first round draft pick and Anthony DeAngelo.
