Troy Grosenick was born August 27, 1989 in Brookfield, Wisconsin. He attended Union College where, in his sophomore year, he won the Ken Dryden Award as the ECAC Goaltender of the Year, and was selected to the ECAC First Team All-League. He was also named as a Hobey Baker Award Finalist

Undrafted by an NHL club, he signed as a free agent with the San Jose Sharks on April 8, 2013.

Grosenick would begin his professional career with the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League. In 35 games for the club in 2013-14, the goaltender would post a 2.62 goals-against-average and .903 save percentage.

On November 16, 2014 Grosenick got his first taste of NHL action. He recorded a shutout against the Carolina Hurricanes, making him the 22nd goalie to post a shutout in their NHL debut. In addition, his 45 save performance was also a record for most saves made in a shutout debut in the NHL's modern era.
