Samuel Morin was born was born on July 12, 1995 in Lac-Beauport, Quebec. A standout defenceman for the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, he was selected in the first round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.
Morin made his professional debut in 2015-16 in the American Hockey League for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. In 76 games he recorded four goals and added 15 assists. He would spend the majority of the following season with the Phantoms, but would also get his first taste of NHL action. He suited up for the Flyers on April 4, 2017 in a 1-0 loss against the New Jersey Devils.
