Chris Bigras was born on February 22, 1995, in Orillia, Ontario. A stand out for the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League, he was selected in the second round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche.

Bigras began his first full professional season in 201516 season, with the Avalanche's AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage and quickly emerged as one of the club's top defenders. He earned his first recall to the NHL and made his Avalanche debut on January 13, 2016, in a 3-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils. He would go on to appear in 31 games for the Avalanche during the 2015-16, scoring a goal and adding two assists.

On the international stage, Bigras helped Canada capture gold at the 2013 World U18 Championship and to a fourth place finish at the 2014 World Junior Championship.
