Remi Elie was born on April 16, 1995 in Green Valley, Ontario. A product of the OHL where he played for the London Knights, Belleville Bulls and Erie Otters, Elie was selected in the second round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars.

Elie made his professional debut in the American Hockey League for the Texas Stars during the 2015-16 season. In 64 games he scored six times and added 11 assists. Elie would spend much of the following season in the AHL as well, but on March 4, 2017 he would get his first taste of NHL action. Elie would go to appear in 18 games Dallas during the 2016-17 season, scoring a goal and adding six assists.
