Gustav Olofsson was born on December 1, 1994, in Borås, Sweden. A product of the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL and Colorado College, Olofsson was selected in the second round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild.

Following his lone collegiate season, Olofsson would join the Wild's AHL affiliate in Iowa for the final eight games of the 2013-14 season. The big defenceman would record his first professional goal for the club.

Olofsson would get his first taste of NHL action during the 2015-16 season, appearing in a pair of games for the Wild.

On the international stage Olofsson helped Sweden to the silver medal at the 2014 World Junior Championship.
