Tyler Bertuzzi was born on February 24, 1995 in Sudbury, Ontario. A star for the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League, he was selected in the second round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings and made his professional debut for the club’s AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins late in the 2014-15 season.

Bertuzzi would spend the majority of the 2016-17 season in Grand Rapids. In 48 games he scored 12 goals and added 25 assists. He also got his first glimpse of life in the NHL, appearing in seven games for the Red Wings. It was in the AHL playoffs where Bertuzzi played his best hockey of the season. In 19 games he notched 19 points, earning the Jack A Butterfield as playoff MVP and helping the Griffins to the Calder Cup title.

Bertuzzi began the 2017-18 season in Grand Rapids, but was recalled by the Red Wings after just 16 games. He would go to appear in 48 games for Detroit, scoring seven times and adding 17 assists.
