Bogdan Yakimov was born on October 4, 1994 in Nizhnekamsk, Russia. A highly touted prospect in his homeland, he was selected in the third round of the 2013 NHL draft by the Edmonton Oilers.

Following a season with HC Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik of the KHL, Yakimov would make his North American debut For the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League in 2014-15. He would appear in 57 games for the club, scoring 12 goals and addint 16 assists. He would also appear in a single game for the Oilers, but failed to register a point.

Yakimov would begin the 2015-16 season with the Bakersfield Condors, but would leave the club to return to Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik part way through the season. He would ultimately return to the Condors late in the year after Neftekhimik's elimination from the KHL playoffs.
