Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Chad Billins
Chad Billins was born on May 26, 1989 in Marysville, Michigan. The undrafted defenseman played four years of NCAA hockey with the Ferris State Bulldogs before taking the jump to become professional. His four years with Ferris State culminated with the school’s first appearance in the Frozen Four in its history in 2012. During that season Billins was also named to the All-CCHA First Team, AHCHA West Second-Team All American, and the NCAA All-Tournament Team.

After his NCAA career, he made the decision to turn professional and signed a one year contract with the Detroit Red Wings’ AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapid Griffins. With the Griffins, his strong play had him selected to play in the 2013 AHL All-Star Game and helped lead the Griffins to a 2013 Calder Cup Championship.

Due to his strong play, Billins earned an NHL contract when the Calgary Flames signed him to a two-way deal prior to the 2013-14 season. He spent the majority of the year with the Flames’ AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Heat, playing in 65 games scoring ten goals and 42 points. He was called up by the Flames for ten games that season. He made his NHL debut and scored his first NHL point on November 5, 2013 in a 5-1 loss to the Minneosta Wild.

After the season, Billins took his talents to Europe where he played for CSKA Moskow of the KHL and Luleå HF of the Swedish Elite League. On June 12, 2015, Billins signed a two year deal with Linköpings HC of the Swedish Elite League.
