Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Steve Oleksy
Steven Oleksy was born on February 4, 1986 in Chesterfield, Michigan. Oleksy grew up playing hockey around the metro Detroit area. First for the Troy Sting AA team and then moving on to play junior hockey in the Central States Hockey League with the Michigan Metro Jets. He then went on to play in the NAHL with the Traverse City North Stars.

Oleksy played collegiately at Lake Superior State University of the NCAA for three seasons. Following his graduation, Oleksy made his professional debut with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL for two games at the end of the season.

After starting the 2011-12 season with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL for a third season, Oleksy joined the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on loan before signing an extension for the remainder of the year on February 23, 2012.

Oleksy signed as a free agent with the Hershey Bears of the AHL on July 2, 2012. After 55 games for the Bears he inked a deal with their parent club, the Washington Capitals on March 4, 2013. He was immediately summoned to the big club and made his NHL debut the next night against the Boston Bruins. He would go on to appear in 28 games for the Caps, scoring one and adding eight assists, while providing a physical presence on the back end.

On July 1, 2015, Oleksy left the Capitals as a free agent and signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He would spend the 2015-16 season with the club's AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

On March 1, 2017, Oleksy's time in the Penguins organization would come to an end. He was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs along with Eric Fehr and draft pick in exchange for Frank Corrado. He would join the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League for the remainder of the 2016-17 season. As a free agent at season's end, Oleksy signed with the Anaheim Ducks.
