Daniel Carr was born on November 1, 1991, in Sherwood Park, Alberta. He played junior hockey for the St. Albert Steel and Powell River Kings before attending Union College where he was a member of the Dutchmen. In his senior year, Carr scored 22 goals and added 28 assists for 50 points in just 39 games. His strong play was rewarded with a selection to the 201314 ECAC Hockey All-Conference First Team.

Undrafted by an NHL club, Carr signed as a free agent with the Montreal Canadiens on April 24, 2014. He would make his professional debut for the club's AHL affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs, the following season. In 76 games for the club Carr scorer an impressive 24 times.

On November 29, 2015, Carr would make his NHL debut and join elite company in the process. He scored his first goal on the first shot of his first shift. He would go on to appear in 23 games for the Canadiens during the 2015-16 season, notching six goals and three assists.

Carr would split time between the Canadiens and their AHL affiliate during the 2016-17 season. In 33 games with Montreal he scored a pair of goals and added seven assists.
