Jordan Oesterle was born on June 25, 1992 Dearborn Heights, Michigan. A product of Western Michigan University, he was undrafted and signed as a free agent with the Edmonton Oilers on March 31, 2014. He would make his professional debut in the late stages of the 2013-14 season for the club's AHL affiliate, the Oklahoma City Barons.

The 2014-15 season would be Oesterle's first full professional campaign. He would start the year in Oklahoma City where he racked up 21 points in 49 games before he received his first NHL recall. He made his NHL debut on February 21, 2015 against the Anaheim Ducks. In total he would appear in six games for the Oilers, recording his first NHL point along the way.

Oesterle appeared in 17 games for the Oilers during the 2015-16 season, in which the defenceman recorded five assists. On July 1, 2017, his time in Edmonton would come to an end. As a unrestricted free agent he signed a deal with the Chicago Blackhawks.
