Christian Folin was born on February 9, 1991 in Kungsbacka, Swedent. The undrafted defenseman played junior in Sweden, the USHL, and the NAHL before decided to harness his hockey career with the University of Massachusetts Lowell River Hawks of the NCAA. Folin would play two years with the River Hawks where he would be named to the Hockey East All-Tournament team in 2014.

Upon graduating, Folin would sign a two year contract with the Minnesota Wild on April 1, 2014. Folin would make his NHL debut on April 10, 2014 where he would record an assist in a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues.

During the 2014-15 season, Folin would split his season playing 40 games with the Minnesota Wild and 13 games with their AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild.

Folin suited up in a career-high 51 games for the Wild during the 2016-17 season, scoring twice and added six assists. As a free agent at season's end, he signed a deal with the Los Angeles Kings.
