Roman Will was born on May 22, 1992, in Plzeň, Czechoslovakia. Will played a single season of junior hockey with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior League, where he started 63 games and was named to the QMJHL First All-Star Team in 2012.
Having been undrafted by an NHL club, Will returned to the Czech Republic where he signed with BK Mladá Boleslav of the 1st Czech National Hockey League. At the age of just 20, Will led the league with a 1.87 goals-against-average in 2013 and posting an even better 1.61 goals-against the following year. His strong play did not go unnoticed and on May 15, 2014 Will signed a deal with the Colorado Avalanche.
In 2014-15, Will would make his North American professional debut. He started the year with the Avalanche's AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, and would later join the Wayne Komets of the ECHL. Will excelled for the Komets, leading all ECHL rookies with a 2.41 goals-against-average.
On January 26, 2015, Will made his NHL debut after being recalled by the Avalanche on an emergency basis. In 18 minutes of action Will turned aside two of three shots in a 6-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks.
On May 10 2016, Will signed on to join HC Bílí Tygři Liberec of the Czech Extraliga.
