Nelson Nogier was born on May 27, 1996 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He played his major junior hockey for his hometown Blades of the Western Hockey League and was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets.

Nogier made his professional debut for the Jets AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, in 2016-17. In 60 games for the club the big defenceman scored twice and added 11 assists. Nogier would also get his first taste of NHL action late in the season. He appeared in his first game for the Jets on March 21, 2017 and would go on to suit up in 10 games for the club as the season came to an end.
