Kyle Connor was born on December 9, 1996 in Clinton Township, Michigan. A star for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL, he was selected in the first round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets and went on the attend the University of Michigan.

Connor would spend just one very successful season at Michigan. In 38 games he scored 35 times and added 36 assists. He was named the NCAA Rookie of the Year, Big Ten Player of the Year and finished as the runner up for the Hobey Baker Award.

Connor would split time during his first professional season between the Jets and their AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose. In 20 games for the Jets he scored twice and added three assists. Suiting up for the Moose, Connor recorded 25 goals in 52 games.
