Thomas Chabot was born on January 30, 1997 in Sainte-Marie, Quebec. A star defenceman for the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, he was selected in the first round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators.
Chabot cracked the Senators’ lineup to begin the 2016-17 season and would appear in a single game before being returned to Saint John for the remainder of the year. At mid-season, Chabot was a part of the silver medal-winning Canadian team at the 2017 World Junior Championship. With 10 points in seven games he was named the tournament’s most valuable player, the first defenceman to earn that distinction.
Chabot began the 2017-18 season in the American Hockey League, but was recalled by the Senators after just 12 games and would remain with the club for the rest of the season. In 63 games Chabot recorded 25 points and his nine goals were tied for the second most among rookie defencemen.
