Brandon Carlo was born on November 26, 1996 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A standout defender for the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League, he was selected in the second round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins.

Carlo made his professional debut for the Bruins' AHL affiliate in Providence during the late stages of the 2015-16 season. He would also suit up in a single post-season contest for the club. Carlo cracked the Bruins' opening night roster to start the 2016-17 season. He would go on to appear in all 82 games, scoring six times and adding 10 assists.

On the international stage, Carlo was a two-time member of the American team at the World Junior Championship, helping his homeland to the bronze medal in 2016.
