A.J. Greer was born on December 14, 1996 in Joliette, Quebec. He attended high school in the United States and then spent two seasons at Boston University. Part way through his second season at Boston, Greer left school and joined the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL. With 22 points in 20 playoff games, Greer was a key contributor to the Huskies 2016 league championship.

Selected in the second round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche, Greer made his professional debut in the American Hockey League for the club’s affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. In his first season with the club Greer recorded 15 goals and added 23 assists in 63 games. Greer would also see action in five games for the Avalanche during the 2016-17 season, registering an assist.
