Dan Renouf was born on June 1, 1994 in Pickering, Ontario. He played junior hockey in the USHL and attended the University of Maine. Following his third collegiate season, Renouf inked a deal with the Detroit Red Wings and joined the club’s AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, for the final six games of the 2015-16 season.

Renouf would spend the majority of the 2016-17 season with the Griffins, appearing in 67 games while scoring three times and adding 13 assists. He would also get his first taste of NHL action, suiting up for the Red Wings on March 27, 2017 in 4-3 overtime victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Renouf's time in the Red Wings organization would come to an end in the summer of 2018. As an unrestricted free agent he inked a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes.
