Drake Caggiula was born on June 20, 1994 in Whitby, Ontario. A product of the Stouffville Spirit of the OJHL, he was undrafted by an NHL club and instead attended the University of North Dakota. In his senior season Caggiula led North Dakota to the NCAA championship and was named the Frozen Four tournamentís Most Outstanding Player.

Following his collegiate career, Caggiula signed a deal with the Edmonton Oilers and would join the club for the 2016-17 season. Caggiula would suit up in 60 games for the Oilers during his first professional campaign, scoring seven times and adding 11 assists for 18 points.
