David Rittich was born on August 19, 1992 in Jihlava, Czechoslovakia. A star goaltender for BK Mlada Boleslav of the Czech Extraliga, he signed as a free agent with the Calgary Flames on June 10, 2016.

Rittich made his North American debut for the Flames' AHL affiliate, the Stockton Heat, during the 2016-17 season. In 31 games he posted an impressive 2.27 goals-against-average and .924 save percentage. His strong play was rewarded with his first recall to the NHL. He took the ice for one period of play in Calgary's last game of the season before being returned to Stockton for the AHL playoffs.
