NHLOldtimers sweater circa 1963

Former goaltender Ed Chadwick had a very impressive professional hockey career between 1953-68, including six seasons in the NHL with Toronto and Boston. Due to Chadwick’s generosity, some extremely rare American & Western Hockey League items will be on display for all to see at the Hockey Hall of Fame. Along with various vintage AHL programs, Chadwick donated his 1956 Winnipeg Warriors WHL Championship jacket and his 1963 Hershey Bears Calder Cup Final jacket. Even more rare were his two scouting jackets from the California/Oakland Seals, as well as a complete NHL All-Stars baseball uniform, worn during tournaments throughout the summer by various NHL players.

Thanks for the Memories…
During the early part of May, 2000, Craig Campbell and Tyler Wolosewich of the Hockey Hall of Fame’s London Life Resource Centre made a fruitful trip to the Markham Museum & Historic Village in Markham, Ontario. Catherine Molloy, Curator of the Museum, presented Craig and Tyler with a significant hockey donation from the late John Lunau of Markham, a local historian and hockey trainer for over 25 years. At one time Head Coach of the Markham. Millionaires Senior club, he was most notable for his years as the trainer of NHL Oldtimers teams. Included in the donation were numerous programs, books and posters, along with three truly impressive NHL Oldtimers sweaters from between 1950-79.

Preserving Championship History
Two separate and significant donations were made toward the end of Summer 2000, both extremely important in their own rights. The first donation was made by the Canadian Hockey Association Vice-President, Scott Smith. Through the efforts of Lyman Potts, along with Hockey Hall of Fame, Director of Hockey Operations, Philip Pritchard, the original version of the Abbott Memorial Cup was permantently retired and replaced with a replica. Presented for the first time in 1918-19, the trophy honoured the memory of Capt. Edward Lyman “Flick” Abbott (namesake for the aforementioned Mr. Potts) who was killed in action during World War I. The trophy would become symbolmatic of the Junior ‘A’ Championship for Western Canada. In a second donation during a pre-game ceremony prior to the September 17, 2000 Toronto Maple Leafs game, Mr. Pritchard was presented with a Kenora Thistles Hockey Club banner that was part of the 1907 Kenora Thistles Stanley Cup Championship team. The banner belonged to the Elliot Family of Kenora for more than five decades and represents the smallest community to ever capture hockey’s Holy Grail.

Lord Stanley in Jersey!
Following Jason Arnott’s Stanley Cup-winning goal at 8:20 of the 2^nd overtime period in game six of the Final, the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Acquisitions team set the wheels in motion. Immediately Arnott was approached regarding his now famous championship stick. Graciously he accepted and became only the 3^rd person to have their Cup-winning stick enshrined (along with Bill Barilko-1951 & Bobby Orr-1970). Later that summer, the Devils followed the Dallas Stars lead from the previous season, donating to the Hall of Fame a complete set of Stanley Cup equipment, including; Ken Daneyko’s jersey, pants, elbow pads; Jay Pandalfo’s helmet; Scott Stevens’ gloves; Sergei Brylin’s gloves, socks; Scott Niedermayer’s elbow pads; Bobby Holik’s shin pads, skates and Patrik Elias’ socks. Congratulations and thank you to the entire New Jersey Devils organization.
