Stanley Cup Band
The text "2004-05 Season Not Played" is permanently engraved on the Stanley Cup and acknowledges the season not played due to a labour dispute.

A new ring is added to the Stanley Cup: Hurricanes and 2004-05 Cancelled Season Recognized

After the Tampa Bay Lightning earned the championship in 2003-04, the last remaining spot on the bottom ring was taken. Consequently, with the 2005-06 Stanley Cup championship team comes a new ring including the names of each member of the 2006 Carolina Hurricanes.

That is not the only engraving on that bottom ring. After much discussion, the 2004-05 campaign has been acknowledged in spite of the fact that the season was not played due to a labour dispute. "The year off is a part of hockey history," states Phil Pritchard, Curator of the Hockey Hall of Fame. "The inscription regarding 2004-05 is not only for the people of today, but for the people 50 years from now. The Stanley Cup inscriptions tell the entire story of the trophy, not an abridged version."

Stanley Cup Band
Stanley Cup winners Gaye Stewart and Marcel Pronovost (1978 Honoured Member) take part in the formal retirement ceremony of the Stanley Cup's upper bowl band
containing the names of the
1940-41 – 1952-53 Stanley Cup winners.

Retired Stanley Cup Band on Display Now

On Friday, March 9, 2007 for the second time in history, the Hockey Hall of Fame ceremoniously removed a ring containing the names of past winners from the Stanley Cup. The ring was officially moved to a new public display case in the NHL Zone as part of a ceremony conducted by Hockey Hall of Fame curator Phil Pritchard, five-time Cup winner Marcel Pronovost (as a member of the Detroit Red Wings in 1950, 52, 53 and 54 and with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1967) and two-time winner Gaye Stewart (1942 and 47 with the Maple Leafs).

Collector's Corner

Collector's Corner Opens

The Hockey Hall of Fame pays tribute to the passion of collecting with a new 400-square foot zone featuring hockey cards, coins, figurines, branded food items, tickets, stamps, plus many more collectible items from the past 80 years.

The Collector's Corner exhibit includes several showcases including the nostalgic Attic Scene, comprehensive Island of Cards, and a tribute to tabletop hockey games.

The area will make you smile, evoking memories of your own hockey collections. Then again, it may also make you wince, remembering the items you collected as a youngster that long ago found their way into yard sales or torn on the spokes or your tricycle.

NCRP

New Interactive Areas Unveiled

The first phase of the Hockey Hall of Fame's investment of $7 million for major exhibit revitalization is the North Concourse Project. This project comprises approximately 10,000 square feet of existing space in the Hall's interactive areas.

The centrepiece of the North Concourse Revitalization Project is the new NHLPA Be A Player Zone, featuring the new and improved Shoot Out and Shut Out games, featuring Eddie Belfour, Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier.

The other featured exhibit attractions unveiled on March 7, 2003 include: TSN/RDS Broadcast Zone with a broadcast gondola overlooking the new rink area; Panasonic Hometown Hockey, dedicated to grassroots hockey in North America; and Pepsi Game Time, an exciting, interactive experience which tests your hockey knowledge.
