Photography
The Turofsky collection pictorially depicts two decades of the “original six” era featuring black and white player portraits and game action from the NHL. This collection also features the largest known quantity of original hockey-related glass negatives from the 1920’s and 1930’s. Other levels of hockey covered include junior, senior and minor professional.

In 1910, Lou Turofsky bought the Toronto-based Alexandra Photo Company from owner Frank Spillar for $125. He renamed the company Alexandra Studios. When Nat Turofsky (December 20, 1956) and Lou Turofsky (October 14, 1959) passed away associate photographers Roy Mitchell and Hall Creller kept Alexandra Studios going until 1962-63. On December 2, 1981, Roy Mitchell sold the hockey portion of Alexandra Studios for $15,000 to Imperial Oil who then donated the collection to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
