Art Ross honours Montreal forward Elmer Lach as trophy's first recipient (1947-48 season)

History
Arthur Howie Ross, former manager-coach of Boston Bruins, presented the trophy to
the National Hockey League in 1947. If two players finish the schedule with the same number of points, the trophy is awarded in the following manner:
- Player with most goals.
- Player with fewer games played.
- Player scoring first goal of the season.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
Jaromir Jagr captured his fourth consecutive Art Ross Trophy and fifth of his career, leading all scorers with 121 points. Along with teammate Mario Lemieux, the two players have now captured seven straight scoring titles for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Jagr, the 1st Team All-Star on right wing also tied for the league lead in assists (69) and recorded 52 goals. He becomes just the fifth player in NHL history to win five-or-more Art Ross Trophies.
