Legends of Hockey - Time Capsule - The 60s - Great Moments - Gordie Howe scores 1,000th point
Gordie Howe scores 1,000th point
November 27, 1960
Mr. Hockey scored his 1,000th career point on November 27, 1960, an assist in a 2-0 win over Toronto. It would be another eight years before another player matched the output (Jean Beliveau), but even more incredibly it would be twenty years later before Howe registered his final NHL point.
Quotable:
"Many times when I hit the blueline, I have no idea what I'm going to do to put the puck in the net."
- Gordie Howe
In 1967, only one man, Gordie Howe, had more than 1,000 career points and only two--Howe and Maurice Richard--had scored more than 500 career goals. At the start of the 2000-2001 season, there were fifty-four 1,000-point men and twenty-seven 500 goal men.
