During the unofficial Women's World Hockey Tournament in 1987, Canada was represented by the National Champion Hamilton Golden Hawks. Leading up to the tournament, the Golden Hawks added five players to strengthen their line-up. Of the additions, Shirley Cameron and Dawn McGuire from Alberta and France St. Louis from Quebec were especially helpful during the six-day tournament. After breezing through the round-robin, the Golden Hawks faced the host team from Ontario, who were represented by the Mississauga Warriors. In a hard fought battle, led by captain Marion Coveny and the stellar goaltending of Cathy Phillips, Canada won the gold medal.
