Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- David Oliver
Born in Sechelt, British Columbia, David Oliver scored 107 goals in four seasons at the University of Michigan in the early 1990s. He was chosen 144th overall by the Edmonton Oilers at the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Oliver was named to the CCHA Second All-Star Team in 1993 and the following season scored 68 points in 41 games and was voted on to the First All-Star Team and named an NCAA West All-American.

After averaging nearly a point per game for the AHL's Cape Breton Oilers in 1994-95, Oliver was recalled to start the lockout-shortened NHL season. He scored 16 goals in 44 games but the Oilers missed out on the post-season.

In 1995-96 he scored 20 goals in 80 games and seemed to fit in well on the fast-skating team. He was claimed on waivers by the New York Rangers in February, 1997 but spent the entire 1997-98 season with the IHL's Houston Aeros where he scored 38 goals. After signing as a free agent with the Ottawa Senators, Oliver returned to the NHL for 17 games in 1998-99. Over the next three seasons Oliver saw action with the Phoenix Coyotes, the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins and the Munich Barons in Germany before signing as a free agent with the Dallas Stars in the summer of 2002. Upon his arrival with the Stars organization, Oliver split his time between the parent club and its AHL affiliate in Utah.
