Carl Sneep was born on November 5, 1987 in Nisswa, Minnesota. A product of Boston College he was selected in the second round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Sneep would make his professional debut at the American Hockey League level for the Penguins' affiliate in Wilkes-Barre during the 2010-11 season. In 61 games for the club the defenceman would record four goals and 13 assists while registering a solid plus 17 rating.
On December 17, 2011, Sneep would get his first taste of NHL action. He would suit up for the Penguins against the Buffalo Sabres and record an assist in his debut.
On January 24, 2013, Sneep was traded from the Penguins to the Dallas Stars in exchange for a conditional seventh round draft pick.
