Mark Van Guilder was born on January 17, 1984 in Roseville, Minnesota. The undrafted centre played his junior hockey with the Tri-City Storm of the USHL before continuing his hockey career at the University of Notre Dame to play with the Fighting Irish.
Van Guilder would play four years in Notre Dame where in his senior year he posted 13 goals and 30 points. This drew enough interest from the Nashville Predators that they signed him to a two year contract as an unrestricted free agent.
Upon arriving in the Predators’ organization, Van Guilder would be assigned to their AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals. Over six seasons, Van Guilder would bounce around the Predators organization where he would play for the Admirals, and the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones.
It wouldn’t be until the 2013-14 season where the Predators give him a shot on the NHL level where he made his NHL debut on March 30, 2014 in a 4-3 shootout victory over the Washington Capitals. Van Guilder would return to the AHL where he would play his entire 2014-15 season with the Admirals.
At the conclusion of the 2014-15 season, Van Guilder elected to sign a one year contract to play for Ritten/Renon in Italy.
