Thatcher Demko was born on December 8, 1995 in San Diego, California. A standout goaltender in the USHL, he was selected in the second round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks and would go on to attend Boston College for three years. In his final collegiate season Demko posted a miniscule 1.88 goals-against-average and .935 save percentage. For his stellar play, Demko was named the Co-Player of the Year by the Hockey East Association and received the Mike Richter Award as the top goaltender in the NCAA.

Demko began his professional career in the American Hockey League with the Utica Comets during the 2016-17 season. Suiting up in 45 games, he recorded 22 wins and a .907 save percentage. Demko’s play in the American League would continue to impress during the 2017-18 season. On March 31, 2018, he was rewarded with his first start at the NHL level. Demko made 26 saves in a 5-4 Canucks victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
