Dylan Ferguson was born on September 20, 1998 in Vancouver, British Columbia. A standout for the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League, he then went on to tend goal for the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL.

Ferguson was selected in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars, but was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights just days later. Following a number of injuries to Golden Knights goaltenders, Ferguson was recalled by the club on emergency basis on October 31, 2017. He made his NHL debut on November 14, coming on in relief of Maxime Lagace. Ferguson was then returned to the Blazers for the remainder of the season.
