In only his third season in the NHL, Alexander Ovechkin led the NHL with 65 goals en route to his first Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy. . He is the first member of the Washington Capitals to win the trophy since it was established in 1999 and is the second Capital to lead the league in goals. Ovechkin set the single season record for goals by a left winger and is just the sixth player in the last 35 seasons to lead the league in both points and goals. He was formally presented the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy along with the Art Ross Trophy at game 3 of the Stanley Cup final.
