CECIL "TINY" THOMPSON led the Bruins to a first overall finish in the NHL in 1929-30, by allowing a league-best 98 goals against. The Beantowners would lose only five games all year, including an NHL record 15 game-winning streak. THOMPSON'S record at the end of the year was 38-5-1, three shutouts and a league-leading 2.19 goals-against average. Charlie Gardiner of Chicago was the trophy's runner-up.
