Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender WALTER "TURK" BRODA became the first VEZINA TROPHY winner to play for a Canadian-based NHL club since Montreal's George Hainsworth copped the award in 1928-29. Playing in all 48 games, BRODA led the Leafs to a record of 28-14-6 and a second place finish. Also named a First Team All-Star, TURK recorded five shutouts and a league leading goals-against average of 2.00. Frank Brimsek of Boston and Johnny Mowers of Detroit tied as VEZINA runners-up.
