Following the 1961-62 NHL season, JACQUES PLANTE, who played in all 70 games for the Montreal Canadiens, captured his sixth VEZINA TROPHY, tying him with Bill Durnan for the most career VEZINA titles. The Habs, losing only two games on home ice, finished first overall during the regular season allowing a meagre 166 goals against. PLANTE would lead the NHL with 42 wins and a goals-against average of 2.37, as well as recording four shutouts and being named to the First All-Star Team. Toronto's Johnny Bower was the trophy's runner-up.
